Takapuna Public Realm

Panuku Development Auckland has identified 40 Anzac Street and 30-38 Hurstmere Road as key public regeneration development sites. Currently accommodated by a carpark and retail outlets, it is proposed that the regeneration involves a public realm with a public reserve and square with activated laneways and associated buildings.

AR & Associates Ltd has been engaged by Isthmus Group to provide a high-level infrastructure assessment and concept design for Stage 1 of the project, being the development of the public square only, excluding any buildings.

The design needed to carefully consider overland flow paths and the need to balance out the catchments and flows so as to maintain the existing situation wherever possible and prevent overloading of the existing stormwater network.

The design is integrated with Hurstmere Road Streetscape Upgrade project, also being undertaken by ARAL.

The project also considered opportunities to provide treatment of stormwater runoff to a section of the adjoining Lake Road.

As for the Hurstmere Rd upgrade project, Healthy Waters in conjunction with Panuku Development are working together to ensure this project adheres to WSD and environmental criteria as well as tying in an aesthetic appeal within this busy part of Takapuna.
